Hardware chosen for speed, and for keeping data intact
Storage is NVMe U.2 of the kind that goes into datacenters. It reads and writes several times faster than a SATA SSD, and power-loss protection is built into the drive, so a sudden outage does not take a write with it.
Memory is DDR4 ECC, which finds and corrects bit errors before they reach your application. It is the memory banks and hospitals run on, and it comes with every plan here.

What you can run on it
Full root access means the server is a plain Ubuntu machine, and anything that runs on Ubuntu runs here. Most of ours host websites and applications, either directly or in Docker containers. WordPress, WooCommerce, Node.js, Python and PHP all run the way they would on any other Ubuntu box.
The rest are working servers of one kind or another: build and staging machines for CI/CD, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB or Redis on dedicated NVMe, REST and GraphQL services behind a port nobody else shares, WireGuard or OpenVPN for a private network inside the EU, and self-hosted mail or Matrix, where the dedicated IPv4 address and reverse DNS are what make it possible.
What it is not: there is no control panel, no managed layer and no backup taken on your behalf. You get a root login, and keeping the machine patched and backed up is yours to do. If that is not what you want, a managed host is the better fit.

Yes. All data is stored in Germany within the EU, in EMAS-certified and ISO 27001-compliant datacenters. That makes these servers suitable for applications handling European personal data.
Your server is stopped. Data is kept for 3 days so you can renew. After 3 days everything is permanently deleted.
No. You are responsible for your own backups. We recommend rsync, restic, or BorgBackup to somewhere off the server.
Yes. Contact support and we arrange an upgrade to a larger plan with minimal downtime. Your data and configuration are preserved during the migration.
